A bit of background...
I studied art and graphic design at The Central School of Art and Design, Kingston Polytechnic and the Royal College of Art. When I left college I first worked in-house as a graphic designer for the papermakers, Wiggins Teape and then at the leading London design firm, Trickett &Webb.
In 1984 Jack Pearce (who I had first met at the RCA) and I set up Silk Pearce. In the early days most of our work was design for print and corporate identity but as technology – and ideas – moved on this expanded to cover every aspect of branding including signage, packaging, web design and other digital media. Jack and I have always been first and foremost designers and design is still at the heart of Silk Pearce’s problem solving.
In 2015, after 31 years, I stepped down as a director of Silk Pearce and left the company. This has allowed me to develop my personal work and also to get involved in other areas of activity.
The work shown on this website is a mixture of Silk Pearce projects and my own work. These personal projects include photographs taken over a period of more than 30 years and printmaking using techniques such as lino-cutting and screen-printing. The latter represents a return to the exploration of what can be achieved by putting ink on paper – which is pretty much where it all started for me. Although I had studied these processes whilst at art college, in many ways this feels like a new journey. I am looking forward to finding out where it takes me.
